>The Israeli Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Ramat Gan and Vicinity

About us
The Israeli Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) Ramat Gan and Vicinity, is one of the first animal welfare organizations in Israel, and has been operating for 65 years.

Mrs Greta Biran founded the animal shelter of Israel SPCA, Ramat Gan and Vicinity in the summer of 1944. Its original target was to provide medical care to farm animals (horses, cows, etc.) living in the areas of Tel-Aviv, Ramat-Gan and Givatayim.

Over the years, the area has been highly urbanized, and, accordingly, our activities shifted to focus on helping abandoned pets and street animals in need (mainly dogs and cats).

Throughout the years we have taken care of thousands of animals, and, supported by the spirit of our volunteers, have saved and found warm and loving homes for most of them, while continuing to take care of those that have not been adopted.

At Israel SPCA, Ramat Gan & Vicinity we do not put down animals (unless clearly medically required to do so in order to end extreme and untreatable suffering).

Our activities span through the entire continuum of animal-aid and include:
  • Rescue
  • Shelter and food
  • Medical care
  • Rehabilitation
  • Preparation for adoption and training
  • Finding adopting families
  • Post adoption support

We are committed to strengthening human-animal relations, and do so in a variety of ways including:
  • Running educational activities in schools and youth centers – to promote better human-animal coexistence
  • Encouraging volunteer activities and accepting volunteers of all ages and backgrounds, including pupils and youth, national service volunteers, students, retired citizens etc.
  • Collaborating with other organizations, including municipal authorities, and other human and animal aid organizations and finding creative opportunities to tighten the bonds between the parties involved

What makes us unique?
  • We are located right at the heart of the Tel-Aviv metropolitan area, which makes us available to a very large community of potential adopters, and to animals in need
  • Our central location also allows many volunteers from neighboring schools and community centers to come and help us improve the quality of life of the animals residing in our shelter
  • We have mobilized hundreds of individuals in our community to become more active and volunteer, and our animal shelter is a focal point for grass roots community building which goes far beyond just animal welfare.
  • We are committed to contributing to the community by conducting educational activities in schools and community centers, and work diligently to increase awareness and love for animals
  • We work together with groups of physically or mentally challenged individuals and provide them with opportunities for self expression and fulfillment through interactions with our animals.
  • We are devoted to each and every animal residing in our shelter, and make sure that they receive the best treatment and quality of life, including frequent walks in neighboring parks, and daily personal attention
  • We are also committed to rehabilitating animals that have experienced physical or mental abuse, and to turn them into trusting, loving and adoptable animals
  • We are constantly working to increase awareness through the media and Internet, and have established good relationships with key media figures that help us promote targets such as animal adoption, and prevention of abuse
  • We do not put down animals (unless clearly medically required to do so in order to end extreme and untreatable suffering)
